Course Description

To understand and to study materials science in physics and in chemistry and oll of its branches, the quantum mechanics, its knowledge and its concepts are essential. In this class, reviewing the classical mechanics, showing breakdown of the classical theory, introduction of the quantum mechanics is done by introducing the Schroedinger equation. The concept of wavefunctions, operators, eigen value and eigen vectors are introduced to explain the idea of the quantum mechanics. Some simple systems including the harmonic oscillator, the Hydrogen atom, are treated by the quantum mechanics. These single-particle eigenvalue problems are precisely examined for the guide of the Schroedinger equation and its solution.
